Procambarus fallax ID

Hej alla :) , jag är ny i sverige och min svensk språk är mycke dåligt, therefore I will write in English. (I will try to write in Swedish after I am done with the SFI [B)] ;) ).

I read this article (my wife translated it to me) and I wonder is it totally illegal to breed, keep and sell crayfish (kräft) in Sweden, for aquarium use???

One of my friends have this crayfish but he is not sure what it is. It looks to me like the Procambarus fallax (Marmorkrebs).
Can you help me ID this crayfish please.

Some sites believe that this crayfish reproduces parthenogenetically?

Does anyone know anything about this?

You can of course feel free to reply in Swedish language :)

Kind regards, Dusko.

The answer on this question is - yes it is illegal even to keep crayfish except for those two mentioned in the article.

Welcome to Sweden:D

Yes, it is at present illegal to keep or sell any species of crayfish _except_ Astacus astacus and Pacifastacus leniusculus.

I have previously expressed my annoyance at this, and the fact that the rules are, frankly, silly, but the rules are there to protect the commercially important harvest of crayfishes in Sweden. The purpose of the ban is 1) to avoid the introduction of commercially less valuable "nuisance" species such as Procambarus clarkii (which would compete with the more valuable species already present), and 2) to avoid the possible introduction of new pathogens.

I am not able to identify your crayfish. Sorry.

I am very sad to hear that but law is law. So one can only keep/breed räkor/shrimps, which is good as well. There are some very beautiful looking Macrobrachium species that can be kept in aquariums.

Thanks again.

Regards, Dusko.
