Sera med Professional Tremazol - Pharmacology: Increases cell membrane permeability in susceptible worms, resulting in loss of intracellular calcium, massive contractions, and paralysis of their musculature. Phagocytes are thus able to attach to worms, causing their death.Indication: Infections caused by all species of schistosoma (eg, Schistosoma mekongi, Schistosoma japonicum, Schistosoma mansoni, Schistosoma hematobium ), liver flukes, Clonorchis sinensis, and Opisthorchis viverrini.

Treatment of neurocysticercosis, tissue flukes ( Nanophyetus salmincola, Opisthorchis felineus, Paragonimus westermani, Fasciola hepatica ), intestinal flukes ( Heterophyes heterophyes, Fascilopsis buski, Metagonimus yokogawai, P. westermani ), intestinal cestodes ( Diphyllobothrium latum, Taenia saginata, Taenia solium, Dipylidium caninum, Hymenolepsis nana, Hymenolepsis diminuta ), schistosomiasis (in concurrent use with oxamniquine), and liver flukes ( Metrochis conjunctus ).
Used for: Treating certain worm infections (eg, schistosoma, liver flukes).
Sera med Professional Tremazol is an anthelmintic agent. It works by killing sensitive worms.
Sera med Professional Tremazol is an anthelmintic (an-thel-MIN-tik) or anti-worm medication. It prevents newly hatched insect larvae (worms) from growing or multiplying in your body.
Sera med Professional Tremazol is used to treat infections caused by Schistosoma worms, which enter the body through skin that has come into contact with contaminated water. Schistosoma worms are found in Africa, South America, Middle Eastern countries, the Caribbean, and parts of Asia.
Sera med Professional Tremazol is also used to treat infection with liver flukes, caused by a type of worm found in East Asia. This worm enters the body while eating contaminated fish.
Sera med Professional Tremazol should not be used to treat parasitic infections in the eye.
Sera med Professional Tremazol may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.
Sera med Professional Tremazol is an anthelmintic used in most schistosome and many cestode infestations. Sera med Professional Tremazol effects the permeability of the cell membrane resulting in the contraction of schistosomes. The drug further causes vacuolization and disintegration of the schistosome tegument. The effect is more marked on adult worms compared to young worms. An increased calcium influx may play an important role. Secondary effects are inhibition of glucose uptake, lowering of glycogen levels and stimulation of lactate release. The action of Sera med Professional Tremazol is limited very specifically to trematodes and cestodes; nematodes (including filariae) are not affected.
Sera med Professional Tremazol is used to treat parasitic and worm infections such as those caused by tapeworms.
Oral Schistosomiasis
Adult: 3 doses of 20 mg/kg every 4-6 hr or 40-60 mg/kg as a single dose.
Child: >4 yr: Same as adult dose.
Oral Intestinal fluke infections
Adult: 25 mg/kg tid for 1-2 days or 40 mg/kg as a single daily dose.
Child: >4 yr: Same as adult dose.
Oral Lung fluke infections
Adult: 25 mg/kg tid for 1-2 days or 40 mg/kg as a single daily dose.
Child: >4 yr: Same as adult dose.
Oral Clonorchiasis
Adult: 25 mg/kg tid for 1-2 days or 40 mg/kg as a single daily dose.
Child: >4 yr: Same as adult dose.
Oral Opisthorchiasis
Adult: 25 mg/kg tid for 1-2 days or 40 mg/kg as a single daily dose.
Child: >4 yr: Same as adult dose.
Oral Tapeworm infections
Adult: 5-25 mg/kg as a single dose.
Child: >4 yr: Same as adult dose.
Oral Neurocysticercosis
Adult: 50 mg/kg/day, given in 3 divided doses for 14 days. Alternatively, 3 doses of 25 mg/kg every 2 hr.
Indications:
Adult: PO Schistosomiasis 20 mg/kg 4-6 hrly for 3 doses. Intestinal fluke infections; Clonorchiasis; Opisthorchiasis; Lung fluke infections 25 mg/kg 3 times/day for 1-2 days. Tapeworm infections 5-25 mg/kg as a single dose. Neurocysticercosis 50 mg/kg/day in 3 divided doses for 14 days.
