"We regret to inform you that it is total disaster in the coastal areas of Sri Lanka . Especially from the Eastern to the south western coast over 4000 people have died . Many more are missing. Over 1 million people are rendered homeless ( This is nearly 5 percent of our entire population ).
As this was the holiday season and many have been traveling down the main road that leads the Western Part of Colombo where the Main City Colombo is situated and the Southern part of the country . This main road runs along side the coastal area of Sri Lanka.
So many people are missing with their vehicles and also one complete train (again the railway line is also going alongside the coastal belt ) with over 1000 people have been washed away to the sea. So far no trace of the people in this train. You may have already seen on TV the disaster.
Most of our collectors down the southern area of the island has lost their houses and some of them still cannot be contacted as the communication lines are not working. The information that is trickling in now is that some of these collectors are missing too. Most of their boats are no more with their diving equipment.
In Colombo my Chief Accountant has died yesterday of a heart attack whilst taking his family away from his House which was getting flooded."
