TEMPORARY EXPORT STOP FOR AQUATIC PLANTS
As of 1 September, theCompetent Autority of Singapore, AVA, will only issue phytosanitarycertificates for those aquatic plant exports to EU, which meet the EUrequirements. During the audit of the EU Food and Veterinary Office (FVO),some requirements were highlighted that require rectification in a short timeframe. Until then, no phytosanitary certificates will be issued whicheffectively means that no aquatic plants will be exported to the EU.In the lastfew years there have been serious numbers of interception of Bemisiatabaci, Tobacco whitefly, in aquatic plants into the United Kingdom atManchester airport. Bemisia tabaci is a species, which can causemajor damage to agriculture in Europe and is listed as a pest species. RecentEFSA risk-analysis confirmed this and also confirmed that the import ofornamental aquatic plants represent a threat.
