Visa fullständig version : Nannostomus mortenthaleri?
Hi,
I don't know what area this post belongs to, but I write it here 'cause I write only in English or Finnish. :)
I've been searching for Nannostomus mortenthaleries to my aquarium, but it's difficult to find them here in Finland.
Is here anyone who has Nannostomus mortenthaleries? Is they so rare fishes in Sweden than here? How much do they cost? Here they are very expensive, maybe 18-20 €!
I live in Lapland and I have to buy my fishes from net stores, 'cause here aren't pet stores or species I want. So, for example, I can't go to Helsingfors or to other place in South-Finland, where are big pet stores, to search the fishes.
Thank you for answering. :)

Found this thread from 2006 which mentions the fish:

95kr/each or 10 for 800kr so about half the price four years ago.

This species is not common but fish wholesalers have them regurlarly in stock. The main reason why this species is uncommon in shops I think is the price - normal price in shops are today approximately 200 Swedish crones

Have it really risen that much in 4 years Kjell? 100% price increase wasn't a small adjustment. Do you know the reason for that Kjell? Would be quite interesting even if I'm not interested in geting that specie.
Oh, they are even more expensive in Sweden than here. :O Well, cost what they cost, I want them still. :D
I have ask from finnish pet stores if they can ask for wholesalers about them, but... I have read from Finnish forums that they are so thin-skinned fishes that the price is so high. For example, N. beckfordi cost about 3 euros in Finland, N. mortenthaleri over 18. :/

I don´t know - but there is always a possibility that a shop that can´t sell a fish for a normal price (in this case very high) have a special offer on these fishes just to get rid of them.
So it can be worth to call around to shops and check the prices - maybe it will be possible to find some rather cheap.
I bought mine 2 years ago and I think that the prices at that time were around 150 SEK
Kjell, do you have N. mortenthaleries? Where did you bought them? Have you tried to breed them?

Yes, but I don´t breed any fish any more. I have them in my 3.000 litre aquarium
Finally I got e-mail from one store, that nearly promised to get Coral Red Pencilfishes from South-Amerika at next autumn. :) Now I have only wait and wait to get my owns. :)

how do the morthentaleri behave in your 3000L tank Kjell? The reason im asking is that ive gotten the impression that this tetra is more of a pair fish than most other nannostomus who are more of schooling fish.
Also the specimens ive seen are rather agressive to fish their own species.
EDIT: Also one reason they are quite rare in stores is the fact that as far as I know they havent been bred on a commercial level yet, thus wildcaught are the only option and wildcaught fish of more rare species generally are more expensive.
